Strange name, right? But when I explain the reasons behind it, you’ll see why the name is flat-out perfect.
901 comes from the number of my very favorite Prismacolor pencil: Indigo Blue. I use Indigo for outlining or emphasizing or shadowing in just about every piece of art I create. What a great color. Plus, Indigo just happens to be part of the name of my graphics and web business: Indigo Dog Design.
The word “Indigo” is just fun to say, isn’t it? It’s like a backroad joyride whoop-de-do for the tongue. And it ends in “go.” Isn’t that great? Go, start, begin. Go has the whole world ahead of it. Indigo is always moving.
So when I was looking around online for a name for my art site, I thought it would be pretty perfect to have the word “Indigo” in the name. But when I started looking around for a domain name, just about every name containing Indigo was taken. Damn.
But then I remembered my good old 901 Indigo Blue pencil, and 901art.com was born.
Though I don’t use a Prismacolor 901 Indigo pencil in every piece I create, I always use some brand of Indigo Blue, even it it’s just a touch.
Perfect, right?
